Training

The AEMA Training Program supports the Alberta Emergency Management System. Participants are provided with the opportunity to understand the applicable acts and regulations and their roles and responsibilities in the five phases of emergency management. Training individuals who have a role in emergency management to become more effective or more skilled will enhance the level of emergency preparedness within Alberta.

The Agency's training plan is intended for all AEMA Staff, Government of Alberta primary and alternate Consequence Management Officers, Ministry Business Continuity Officers/Managers and the Business Continuity Cross Government Coordination Team.  In addition, federal government partners and non-Government Alberta organizations that normally attend the Government Emergency Operations Centre (GEOC) during activation will be invited to participate.  Municipal and industry personnel wishing to attend training events may attend those that are relevant and appropriate to their roles and responsibilities. Check the Training Calendar for upcoming events and contact the Manager of Training at 1-780-427-8633 for further information.

AEMA has developed standards for Emergency Management Exercises and Training in Alberta to ensure a common understanding of the Alberta Emergency Management Framework and a consistent standard of service provided during a disaster or emergency.

AEMA makes available to municipalities the names of Approved Trainers that may be contracted to conduct training under the Emergency Management Grant Training Initiative. Trainers who are interested in conducting emergency management training within Alberta may apply to the Manager of Training, Design and Accreditation.
