Emergency Preparedness Week
May 4 - 10, 2008
If you or your family are caught in an emergency or disaster, are you prepared? Do you have a 72-hour kit? An emergency plan?
Emergencies and disasters can happen anywhere, at any time. One of the best things you can do to protect yourself and your family is to be prepared:
- Know the risks – in Alberta, flooding, wildfires and severe winter storms are occurring more and more often.
- Make a plan – having a plan helps you and your family know what to do in case of an emergency.
- Assemble a 72-hour kit – you should be able to cover your basic needs in the case of an emergency or disaster for a minimum of 72 hours.

During Emergency Preparedness Week, the Alberta Emergency Management Agency also urges Albertans, particularly those living or working near industrial areas, to be aware of shelter-in-place protocols. Shelter-in-place is the process of staying indoors in an attempt to lessen the effects of an emergency.
